With Dark Souls 3 out and doing gangbusters — the threequel quickly became the fast-selling title in Bandai Namco America’s history — Game Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has touched base on DLC plans.
Set to release across two mainline installments, it’s understood the game’s first expansion will arrive before the year’s end, while the second isn’t due to launch until early 2017. Miyazaki revealed the tentative timeline to Taiwanese website GNN (via VideoGamer), confirming that the inaugural Dark Souls 3 DLC will raise its head in the fall of 2016.
Beyond that, the From Software developer cast doubt over the immediate future of the cult RPG series, revealing that, “what is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over. So rather than make another sequel, I think it’s time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun.”
When pressed about the possibility of a Demon’s Souls remaster for PlayStation 4, Miyazaki emphasized that From wants to try “making new things” outside of the Souls series.
Dark Souls 3 is available now on PS4 and will soon receive a batch of bug improvements with update 1.05.
