With little over a month until E3 2016 and the publisher’s inaugural Play event, Electronic Arts has confirmed that a new IP is in the works for 2017.
Word comes by way of the company’s recent financial report, where Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen teased that the unannounced title is “coming next year” and will be showcased “soon,” indicating that an E3 reveal is likely in the cards.
It’s understood both BioWare and Motive Studios are working on new IPs, but whether Jorgensen is referring to one of these studios or a new developer entirely is up for question.
Speaking of Motive, the developer who last year recruited former Ubisoft Producer Jade Raymond is said to be working on a “gigantic” action game in the vein of Assassin’s Creed — just don’t expect it anytime soon.
That’s because elsewhere in the report Jorgensen conceded that the studio’s AAA title isn’t likely to debut until fiscal year 2020 or 2021. For clarity, that places Ubisoft’s actioner anywhere between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020.
Electronic Arts’ E3 press briefing is set to take place on Sunday, June 12.
