The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC is a “Graphics Upgrade” From Base Game, Says CD Projekt Red

Blood and Wine, the second and final expansion headed to The Witcher 3, represents a “graphics upgrade from the base game,” according to developer CD Projekt Red.

Now set for release on May 31, Senior Environment Artist Len de Gracia revealed to Eurogamer that the studio’s creative team have been able to implement design tweaks with Blood and Wine that ultimately didn’t make the cut for The Witcher 3. In fact, Gracia estimates that close to 80 percent of environmental assets found in the DLC are brand new.

“Generally it is a graphics upgrade from the base game. We have employed methods that we did not implement in the base game. You can literally bring your camera up to a wall now and the textures would be crisp – at least in most cases. 80, 85, probably even 90 per cent of the assets – in terms of environment that you find in this game – are brand new.”

In a separate interview with the outlet, Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz reaffirmed that Blood and Wine represents the final content drop for The Witcher 3, noting that the imminent DLC “is the last thing we deliver [before] we focus on Cyberpunk.”
