Those Kickstarter backers who opted for “appropriate tiers” when pledging their support to Yooka-Laylee will be able to get their hands on a pre-Alpha demo of the platformer come July.
Billed as the Toybox, developer Playtonic pitched the vertical slice as “a self-contained, spoiler-free sandbox,” one designed to give select backers a taste of the core gameplay. No details were given regarding how much supporters had to pledge to be entitled to the demo, but we’ll update this post if and when we learn more.
In terms of the story driving Yooka and Laylee’s colorful romp, a new blog post from the studio reveals that the “adventure will take them deep inside the work halls of a baneful business, as the buddy-duo seek out the magical Pagies required to explore the mysterious Grand Tomes. The dexterous pair will seek to unlock the ancient secrets of these bewitching books, as they battle to thwart corporate creep Capital B and his devious scheme to absorb all of the world’s literature… and convert them into pure profit.”
Yooka-Laylee remains on course to launch in October, with more details expected to drop during E3 next month.
