10 Anime That Should Be Made Into Video Games

Plenty of gamers enjoy anime, so naturally video game adaptations of these Japanese shows are a perfect fit. That’s why we’ve seen successful games based on anime like Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 and Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Another anime adaptation, One Piece: Burning Blood, releases today, and that got me thinking about other shows that haven’t been adapted.

With that in mind, I’ve created a list of anime games I would like to see made. While most anime video games are based off action series, I tried to spotlight TV series that wouldn’t normally be mentioned in the discussion. I also left series off the list that have had video games already (so sadly no Nisekoi or Detective Conan here).

I hope you enjoyed our look at 10 anime game adaptations that should happen. While I only named 10 shows, there’s other anime that would also be a great fit for a video game. Plus, there’s some that have already had games, but haven’t quite fulfilled their potential like Lupin the Third.

Free!

Free! is an anime about swimming, friendship, and most importantly muscles. Traps, delts and lats are all in full effect here, which is why it'd be a perfect PlayStation VR title. After all, we already have a sports title filled with attractive women, so why not do the same for men? Plus unlike Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, Free! actually has a compelling cast of characters and swimming could make for a fun game.
Tonari no Seki-kun

There hasn't been a proper Warioware style game in a few years, and that's where Tonari no Seki-kun comes in. The anime, which has seven-minute long episodes, revolves around the titular Seki-kun as he annoys his classmate Yokoi, who unfortunately has to sit by him. It'd be the perfect fit for a mini-game (or preferably a microgame) collection, and its brand of wackiness would work great.
One-Punch Man

While not based on an anime, Asura's Wrath certainly felt like gamers were playing one. It was over-the-top, had amazing action sequences, and some of the best implementation of quick time events in any game. Since a sequel isn't likely, I'd love to see CyberConnect2 create a similar game based on One-Punch Man. The show's great sense of humor and overpowered protagonist would work great in such a cinematic context, and it'd be something special to play!
Is The Order A Rabbit?

One type of anime that is rarely turned into a game is "slice of life" shows that deal with more mundane topics than saving the world from superheroes. The closest thing we really have to a game version is Millenium Kitchen's My Summer Vacation series which appeared on PSP. Is The Order a Rabbit? is a great fit for an adaptation due to its great cast of characters (see that bunny on the girl's head? That's actually her grandpa!), and there's a lot of general mishaps the gang could get up to.
No Game No Life

No Game No Life is a natural choice for a video game since its entire premise deals with a world where everything is governed by playing games. Wars are not fought with soldiers, but with chess pieces instead. Considering the wide variety of different tests in the show, there's a lot of potential here for blending different genres within an interesting game world.
One Week Friends

One Week Friends is almost reminiscent to Groundhog's Day as its main character, Kaori, loses her memories about friends at the beginning of each week. Despite this obvious impediment, her classmate Hase is determined to befriend Kaori. There's several different ways to handle this unique story, and I'd love to see a developer like Dontnod tackle these characters and issues in an episodic format.
FLCL

Considering two additional seasons of FLCL are somehow on the way, a video game adaptation would make sense. I'm not sure how I would exactly like to see Naota's journey continue in a game, but I do know it'd be even trippier if done in virtual reality. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try to watch Fooly Cooly for a 10th time and see if I finally understand what the heck goes on.
Sailor Moon Crystal

Okay, so there's been Sailor Moon games in the past, but none from the current revival. That's why an action game based off Sailor Moon Crystal would be rad. It's been a long time since the series has been represented in a game, and a PS4 character action game by Ninja Theory would be a dream come true. Just make sure there's a lot of Tuxedo Mask because he's the best.
Paranoia Agent

There's a lot of great anime based around mysteries (shoutout to the greatest anime ever - Detective Conan), and Paranoia Agent is one of the best. It starts off with the police chasing Lil' Slugger, a rollerskating boy who assaults people on the streets of Tokyo. It quickly evolves into something much more than that, and it'd be great to see a new generation of people exploring the late Satoshi Kon's masterpiece.
Shirokuma Cafe

Gamers have cooked with mama and dashed at diners, but I think it's time they take a trip to Shirokuma Cafe. This isn't your average café, as it's actually owned by a polar bear who loves to share bad puns with his customers. There's a lot of ways to make a game about preparing food, but the unique hook of dealing with animal and human customers would make this one stand out from the crowd.
