E3 2016 – Resident Evil 7 Development Began in 2014, Demo Isn’t Part of the Game

Confirming the news with Eurogamer, Capcom announced that the recently released Resident Evil 7 Teaser Demo: Beginning Hour isn’t a part of the full Resident Evil 7 biohazard game, which is out in January 2017.

Capcom also said that Resident Evil 7 has been in development since 2014 and will feature a different lead than the character in the demo.

In this interview, a Capcom developer says, “Just to make it clear first and foremost: [the demo] is not actually a slice from the game, it isn’t the opening sequence of the game or anything like that. We really wanted to focus on what concepts we wanted players to understand about the game with the demo and that’s horror, obviously. So this is kind of like a tonal preview of what to expect in the game, rather than a little bit of the game content you’re getting in advance.”

If you’ve been having trouble getting the demo, it’s now available to download directly through the online PlayStation Store, exclusively for PlayStation Plus members. The file size should be around 3GB and, as some people discovered, there is an axe in-game.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard will be available on January 24, 2017 for PlayStation 4 (with full PlayStation VR support), Xbox One, and PC.
