Fallout 4’s Dialogue System “Less Successful Than Other Things in the Game,” Says Bethesda

Speaking to GameSpot, Bethesda Game Studios director, Todd Howard, admitted that the dialogue system found in Fallout 4 was ultimately “less successful than other things in the game.”

He attributed the poor dialogue options to the team’s tendency to “try new things,” which in this case “didn’t work as well.”

With the main character’s two voice actors, Brian T. Delaney and Courtenay Taylor, recording over 13,000 lines of dialogue each, it’s a shame that their efforts were presented in a less than optimal way. However, Howard did go on to say that games like Fallout 4 aren’t just a “one-off,” reminding the audience that player feedback is “really, really helpful.”

Fallout 4‘s next content drop comes in the form of the “Contraptions Workshop” on June 14, followed by the “Vault-Tec Workshop” in July, after which the Nuka-World expansion will launch in August. Check out the full video detailing the upcoming DLC here.

As for what else Todd Howard and the rest of Bethesda Game Studios are busying themselves with, there’s confirmed to be “two other large projects” in the works, which are “bigger than anything [they’ve] ever done.”

What do you think of Fallout 4‘s dialogue options? This is where mods come in useful, right?
