PS4 Neo Releasing in 2016, Say Digital Foundry Sources

In a recent Eurogamer piece about 4K gaming and the looming releases of Xbox One’s “Scorpio” and PlayStation 4’s “Neo,” Digital Foundry closed with an interesting tidbit:

“Several sources have indicated to me that PlayStation Neo launches this year, despite its E3 no-show. If that is the case, it’ll be interesting to see how developers utilise its resources, and whether 4K really is the focus. And we can be equally as sure that Microsoft will be watching just as intently as it gears up for its own next-gen roll-out.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “that guy doesn’t need the ‘as’ right after ‘equally’ because that’s redundant.” You are correct, but the more interesting part of that quote is a source indicating that the PlayStation Neo launches this year.

When the Neo skipped E3, speculation ran wild, with most assuming such a move meant there was no way it would launch within 2016. Are Digital Foundry’s sources onto something, Internet detectives? Do you think it’ll pull off a 2016 launch, maybe right before the holidays?

Big events still loom within the year, during which more info and release plans could be confirmed. Watch for August’s Gamescom, September’s Tokyo Game Show, October’s Paris Games Week as well as the PlayStation Experience that has capped off the last couple of years.
