BioWare Explains Why Mass Effect: Andromeda Won’t Be Affected by Mass Effect 3 Ending Choice

While BioWare has already mentioned that Mass Effect: Andromeda won’t be a sequel to the original Mass Effect trilogy, some might be wondering if their ending choice for Mass Effect 3 will have any sort of bearing to how Andromeda’s story will play out.

For better or for worse, the answer is a quick and simple no. In an interview, BioWare studio boss Aaryn Flynn and Mass Effect Creative Director Mac Walters confirmed that Andromeda won’t acknowledge any Mass Effect 3 ending. This isn’t due to the controversy that surrounded it, but rather, the studio wants Andromeda to be a fresh take on the franchise.

AarynFlynn: We acknowledged it in the endings of Mass Effect 3 and I think that’s where we want to leave it for now…We want this to be a new story and it would be very hard to say it’s a new story but also that you need to understand how [the past trilogy] ended.

Important to note that even if this is indeed a new take on the franchise, BioWare reaffirms that fans will see elements from the original trilogy in Andromeda.

Mac Walters: It’s important for us to have elements from the Trilogy for fans to have in the background…Ultimately this is intended to be a fresh story, but we want to have things for people to find and go ‘oh, I remember that character.

Is this any concern for you? Or were you expecting it the moment Andromeda was announced? While brief, here’s our first official leak at a few seconds’ worth of Andromeda gameplay.
