Injustice 2 Could Have 10 DLC Characters, NetherRealm Is Thinking About Paid Gear Unlocks

Following the release of Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013, developer NetherRealm released six DLC fighters: Batgirl, General Zod, Lobo, Martian Manhunter, Scorpion, and Zatanna. According to Creative Director Ed Boon, Injustice 2 could feature as many as 10 post-launch characters.

Speaking with IGN, Boon said they’re trying to support each game for longer than the previous:

One of the things we’ve been doing, trying to do more and more with every game… is to support it for a longer period of time. With DLC characters, we’ve had four with Mortal Kombat, six with Injustice, eight with Mortal Kombat X, and with Injustice 2 we plan on continuing that pattern.

Boon didn’t give a concrete number for DLC characters, but he said they’ll “certainly be more aggressive than we’ve been in the past” with Injustice 2 post-launch content.

One of the big new features in Injustice 2 is the ability to personalize every character with unique and powerful gear, which is earned after every match. Since Boon knows some players probably “won’t want to invest months and months of their time” to get the best gear, they’re looking at adding a paid unlock system.

Mentioning that the idea is in their head, but they haven’t nailed anything down yet, Boon added, “Ideally to me the whole purpose of this feature is customization, longevity, and ongoing molding of your character so to speak.”

Injustice 2 launches in 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Do you think Injustice 2 should include paid gear unlocks?
