New Sonic the Hedgehog Game Releasing in 2017

Having confirmed that it’s working on a “completely new game,” Sonic Team has announced that its new Sonic the Hedgehog title will be out in 2017. This news was revealed by the team’s boss, Takashi Iizuka, during an anniversary celebration in Tokyo.

Details about the upcoming title will be revealed at the Sonic 25th Anniversary Party that’s set to take place in San Diego on July 22. We’re also told that the event will be livestreamed on Twitch.

In a recent interview, SEGA said that it’s determined to “take Sonic back to where it used to be.” Chief Brand Officer, Ivo Gerscovich, said that the company wants to go across all platforms and “elevate” the character’s status further. Apparently, SEGA is putting a “huge emphasis” on quality.

Iizuka also said that Sonic Team wants to ensure that players get their hands on “great” titles, which is a challenge for the developer going forward.

We’ll update our readers when more details are revealed. In the meanwhile, you can check out some of our favorite Sonic characters here.
