Despite what his stacked schedule may suggest, esteemed voice actor Troy Baker says he is conscious of oversaturating the market, telling Twinfinite, “at some point, I don’t want to be in every game.”
Baker, who recently played the part of Sam in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, spoke with the outlet during Sydney’s Supanova convention. Shedding light on his own selection process, the actor and musician admitted that he has declined roles that struggled to capture his imagination.
“At some point, I don’t want to be in every game. I don’t want to oversaturate the market with myself, so there are times when I go, ‘yeah, we’re going to have to pass on this’, but what that does is it gives [me] the opportunity to really give all of [my] energy into the projects that I am attached to.”
This isn’t exclusive to Troy Baker, with the actor himself revealing that the likes of Nolan North, Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey and Roger Craig Smith tend to turn down offers that involve retreading old ground.
“There’s projects we get approached with that either are repeating a beat or something that we’ve done before, or honestly I feel like there’s someone who could do it better. I’m not alone in this, there’s several people – Nolan [North]’s done this, Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Roger Craig Smith. We believe that we’re going to work and a career is not a culmination of jobs, it’s a culmination of relationships.”
Troy Baker will next be heard as the Caped Crusader in Telltale’s upcoming Batman series.
