Quake Champions is PC Exclusive Because It Has to Reach 120Hz, Says id Software

id Software has said that part of the reason its upcoming title, Quake Champions, isn’t coming to consoles is because it’s important for the game to reach 120Hz. In an interview with GameSpot, Creative Director Tim Willits said that although many people might not be able to tell the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz, the pro players can, and the developer doesn’t want to lose them.

Most of us, and even me, I can’t really tell the difference. But there are some players who are inhuman. And we can’t come out and say we’re going to make a game for them and not run ridiculously fast. Because if we lose the pro guys, we’re in trouble.

That’s why it’s a PC game. No excuses. No limitations.

That said, id isn’t ruling out console versions entirely. At E3 2016, Willits told GameSpot that he’s “not shutting the door on consoles” but it’s too early to say what the future holds.

Would our readers want to play Quake Champions on consoles?
