Paramount Television and production company Anonymous Content announced today that they’ve optioned the rights to a Battlefield TV series.
Details on the show itself weren’t given today, suggesting it’s early in development, but we do know it will have Michael Sugar (producer on Best Picture winner Spotlight) and Ashley Zalta as executive producers.
Sugar said that the Battlefield TV show will have robust storytelling:
Battlefield has a tremendous built-in, engaged fan base, making it a highly coveted piece of IP primed for long-form adaptation. Together with EA and Paramount TV, we’ll develop the Battlefield TV series with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success for nearly fifteen years.
EA Entertainment VP Patrick O’Brien added, “Michael’s track record speaks for itself. Combined with his passion for Battlefield, we cannot imagine a better team than Anonymous Content and Paramount for this project.”
The press release adds that the Battlefield series has seen more than 60 million players since debuting in 2002. The next game in the series, Battlefield 1, launches on October 21.
