Sony Financials: PS4 Hits 43.5 Million Shipped, Uncharted 4 Helps Sales Rise

In their financial report for the quarter ended June 30, 2016, Sony revealed that 3.5 million PlayStation 4 consoles were shipped, bringing the worldwide lifetime total to 43.5 million.

Just like in May, Sony is expecting to move 20 million PS4s this fiscal year (ending March 31, 2017). If they manage to achieve it, worldwide sales would be at 60 million.

Looking at the Game & Network Services division as a whole, sales were up 14.5% year-over-year to $3.2 billion. However, they did note that there was a decrease in PlayStation 3 hardware and software sales.

Additionally, Sony says operating income increased by 126% to finish at $427 million, “primarily due to the strong performance of Uncharted 4,” which is the best-selling PS4 game so far this year. Furthermore, the uptick is thanks to increased PS4 games sales, including those through the PlayStation Network, as well as PS4 hardware reduction costs. For the Network sales, they increased 38% year-over-year and accounted for 46% of the total sales in the segment.

As for Sony’s overall financials, sales were down 10.8% to $15.7 billion, and operating income was down 42% to $546 million.
