With rumors first popping up a couple of months ago, Ubisoft Motion Pictures announced today that a movie based on The Division is in the works, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Chastain set to star.
Freckle Films, Chastain’s production company, and Nine Stories, Gyllenhaal’s production company, will develop the movie with Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
Gerard Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, said, “We are excited to collaborate with Jessica and Jake, two of Hollywood’s most talented actors and perfect creative collaborators to help bring Tom Clancy’s The Division to the big screen.”
Matt Phelps, Ubisoft Motion Pictures Vice President, added, “Attaching Jake and Jessica is part of our development philosophy of working closely with top talent from the earliest stages to collaborate on a high quality film.”
No details about the movie’s plot were given, but Ubisoft said on their blog, “The battle to restore order to Manhattan is being made into a movie by Ubisoft Motion Pictures,” later adding, “The pandemic-stricken streets of The Division are filled with countless stories of love, loss, treachery, and heroism, but we’ll have to wait to find out what avenues the film will explore.”
Ubisoft Motion Pictures also talked about how their Assassin’s Creed movie is coming this December, and how movies based on Splinter Cell (with Tom Hardy), Ghost Recon, Watch Dogs, and Rabbids are all currently in development.
