The Clickbait Podcast Ep. 22 – Would Console Cross-Play End the Fanboy Wars?

Imagine, if you will, a grassy field divided by two colors – blue and green. On the blue side, PlayStation fan favorite Shuhei Yoshida stands, helmet in hand, atop a rumbling four-wheeled monster truck. Its antenna bounces around behind him, the top adorned with the grinning head of Crash Bandicoot.

On the green side, Xbox boss Phil Spencer stands with his jacket slightly open revealing half of a logo for an upcoming and unnamed indie game emblazoned across his tshirt. He puts his helmet on, jumps into the seat of a Halo warthog, and revs the engine.

This is Rocket League. This is the (highly dramatized) potential future of cross-play.

It would mark the first time players from either camp would be able to directly interact with one another outside the hellish wasteland of comment sections. Would finally hearing a human voice on the receiving end of childish insults finally quell the fanboy wars? Would a dose of humanity be enough to silence the majority of hatred between these two sides?

It’s baitin’ time.
