New Watch Dogs 2 Video is All About Hacking and Hacker Culture

In its second episode of Remote Access – a series of videos offering an in-depth look at Watch Dogs 2 – Ubisoft sheds light on the real-life inspirations behind its portrayal of hacking and hacker culture. According to Senior Producer, Dominic Guay, the development team was interested in exploring “hacktivism” when creating the main character and the DeadSec crew, focusing on social motives. Guay further explained:

Hacktivism is something very present in the hacker culture. They [hacktivists] want to expose some information that they’re the only ones having access to.

Since Ubisoft wanted to treat the subject matter with “respect,” it sought assistance from the hacker community who actually helped the development team to a great extent. Creative Director, Jonathan Morin, added that each character represents “a way to question how things should be.”

Watch Dogs 2 is out on November 15 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
