Gamescom is underway this week, and the folks at Blizzard have kicked things off with a bang regarding Overwatch. If you’ve been experiencing map fatigue or general tedium in the game, then perhaps a new map is just what the doctor has ordered. Lucky for you, Blizzard can fill this prescription with Eichenwalde.
Eichenwalde is a new escort/assault map that is as brightly colored and detailed as we have come to expect from Blizzard. It’s a castle setting located in the outskirts of Stuttgart, Germany that appears to be as vertical as it is expansive. The official Overwatch Twitter account posted the following video from their gamescom announcement. It’s pretty, but it would have been nice if the video included some match gameplay so we can all see Eichenwalde in action.
The fight for the future returns to Eichenwalde—a new Assault/Escort map revealed today at gamescom 2016!https://t.co/1ApP6IurtP

Blizzard offered a bit more information on the official YouTube video description, but still nothing about a release date.
The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.
On this map, one team must escort a battering ram to Eichenwalde Castle to reclaim Balderich’s remains from their current resting place, while the opposing team does everything in its power to thwart the keep from being breached.
