Earlier at this gamescom, NieR: Automata producer Yosuke Saito said in a few interviews that the game would take around 25 hours to complete. When he reported what he said to his staff, they told him he was inaccurate. More precisely, they said, “No, it probably takes a lot longer than that.”
Around 25 hours is an average length for an action-RPG. The original Nier lasted around that time, and that was only if the first ending was reached and very few side quests were completed. Saito has said that NieR: Automata also has multiple endings and side quests. He also noted that the side quests don’t have to be completed, but the various endings appear to be tied to those side quests. Saito said that those would want to see the “true” ending will “probably have to do the side quests as well.”
NieR: Automata is set to release in 2017 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
