Capcom “Scaling Back” on Classic Cameos in Resident Evil 7, Says Leon Voice Actor

Resident Evil‘s Leon voice actor, Matt Mercer, has said that Capcom is “scaling back a little bit on throwing in all the classic cameos” in its upcoming title, Resident Evil 7 biohazard. Speaking to GameSpot, Mercer said that he doesn’t have any direct involvement in the game but thinks that it’s a good idea to scale back.

I think it’s also good of them, especially coming off of [Resident Evil 6] and its lukewarm reception, to go ahead and reestablish their roots and maybe start an original story. And if they decide that that does well, maybe they can then marry it in with the previous stories.

That said, Mercer made it clear that he would love to play Leon again if given the opportunity.

Leon is a character I have a strong appreciation for. I loved him when I played the series and being able to step into those shoes has been a huge honor. So any chance to jump into his shoes again, I would definitely leap at.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard releases on January 24, 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For some recently revealed details, head over here (spoiler warning).
