Speaking with the Financial Times recently, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai said they’re “aggressively getting into” mobile gaming. “It’s quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well,” he added.
Calling Pokemon Go a “real game-changer,” Hirai says he’s “very interested in the fact that it has the potential to really change the way people move, literally.” After mentioning that the augmented reality featured in Pokemon Go is a “great innovative idea that’s going to lift all boats for the video game industry,” he said he’d like to add AR capabilities to Sony’s games.
Back in April, Sony opened ForwardWorks, a studio dedicated to using PlayStation properties to create fully-fledged games for iOS and Android smart devices in Japan and Asia. We haven’t heard much about ForwardWorks since the original announcement, but Kaz did say “they’ll be coming out with titles” in the interview.
The Financial Times also says PS4 Neo is expected to launch next week, complete with ultra-high definition resolution. Based on past reports though, the PS4 Slim will likely be out next week, followed by PS4 Neo at a later date.
