Hyper Light Drifter PS Vita and Wii U Versions Cancelled

Hyper Light Drifter released back in July for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and a PlayStation Vita version was planned for release later this year, with developer Heart Machine revealing that they were receiving external support to help with the difficult porting process. However, in a new Kickstarter update (above), Heart Machine has announced that the planned PS Vita and Wii U versions have been cancelled.

As Alex Preston explains, he’s been working almost non-stop on Hyper Light Drifter since late last year and it has been “immensely exhausting” to do all these versions back-to-back. Preston, who was born with multiple life-threatening heart defects, adds that he hasn’t received proper treatment in over seven months. Considering his health issues, he says he’s come to the decision to cancel the PS Vita and Wii U versions of Hyper Light Drifter.

If you backed the Wii U or PS Vita versions of Hyper Light Drifter, Preston says you can swap your key for another platform or you can receive a refund.

At about the 1:30 mark, Preston begins to talk about the challenges of porting Hyper Light Drifter to Vita. As he explains, the port would require major re-working and downgrading to fit on the lower-powered platform. You can learn much more about the porting process by watching the video.
