Overwatch is Twitch’s Most Watched New Release of 2016 as Site Breaks Viewership Record

During its keynote at TwitchCon 2016 in San Diego, the streaming service revealed a list of most watched new releases of 2016 and, unsurprisingly, Overwatch topped the list. This doesn’t come as a surprise as the console and PC team-based shooter continues to dominate sales charts in various regions and has over 15 million players worldwide.

Here are the top 10 most watched new releases of the year:

– Overwatch

– World of Warcraft: Legion

Destiny: Rise of Iron

Tom Clancy’s The Division

H1Z1: King of the Kill

– Arma 3

– The Culling

No Man’s Sky

– Clash Royale

Stardew Valley

In related news, Twitch has broken its viewership records this year as it boasts an average of 622,000 simultaneous viewers over the past 12 months. The simultaneous viewership peaked at 2.06 million, thanks in part to eSports tournaments.

“Why has viewership continued to rise? Because the total number of streamers has also continued to rise,” said CEO Emmett Shear. “This year, I’ve seen more people broadcasting than ever before.”
