PSVR Launch Games Preview

PlayStation VR launches tomorrow (check out our review if you haven’t already), and if that isn’t exciting enough, there are over 30 games available to play on October 13. These titles range from well known franchises like Batman and Until Dawn to exciting new ideas like SuperHyperCube and Thumper. On top of that, existing titles are also getting updated to support VR like Volume and Catlateral Damage.

It’s easily the most packed line-up for the launch of any virtual reality headset. That’s why it isn’t surprising if buyers are confused as to what to get at launch considering the list of games. That’s why we’ve put together this preview that will let you better choose what PlayStation VR launch games are right for you.

Please note that this list is as accurate as possible, but the games line-up may change before October 13. We’ll do our best to keep it updated in case any games are added at the last minute or delayed. Without further delay, check out our PSVR launch games below!

100ft Robot Golf

No Goblin's second video game is 100ft Robot Golf. This isn't a normal game of golf, as it has players flying through cities as giant robots. It looks to be one of the wackiest virtual reality titles at launch, and is coming from a very talented developer.
Ace Banana

Ace Banana has players demonstrating their archery skills in a colorful world. It's filled with talking bananas, dangerous monkeys, and it's all very ridiculous. It's already out on Vive, and the PSVR version seems like an adequate port.
Allumette

Allumette is an animated feature by Penrose Studios. Players will get to move around environments while the story is told. Penrose calls the game a " story about love, sacrifice and a deep bond between the young girl and her mother."
The Assembly

Developed by nDreams, The Assembly is a first-person thriller. The interactive story is designed specifically for virtual reality, and will put players in the shoes of two separate characters as they make choices and investigate a secret bunker.
Batman Arkham VR

Batman Arkham VR allows players to actually become Batman. Well, at least in some capacity. Rocksteady's virtual reality game is very limited (and short), but at least offers up a reason to throw batarangs around and an intriguing story.
Battlezone

Despite being a reboot of the 1980s arcade game of the same name, Battlezone features modern-day tank combat. Featuring online cooperative play and a thrilling campaign, it looks to be one of the most promising launch titles. Plus, getting to sit in a virtual cockpit is always awesome.
Bound

Plastic's beautiful platformer has been updated with PlayStation VR support. Now players can be further immersed by the ballet gameplay, and the graceful action of Bound.
Catlateral Damage

There isn't much to Catlateral Damage, but it sure is fun to pretend to be a cat. Players get to wreck havoc in supermarkets, museums and other locations, and a free VR update will make this PS4 game compatible come launch day.
Driveclub VR

Driveclub VR is a remixed version of Evolution Studio's racing title. Featuring the best content from the core game and DLC, it looks to put it all in one new, but familiar, package. It's the most exciting racing game at launch, and hopefully it'll deliver.
EVE: Gunjack

Taking place in the EVE universe, EVE: Gunjack has players taking control of a turret and battling waves of enemies. Originally released on Vive and Rift, the shooter has received praise on other platforms. There are no reasons to think that the PSVR version will be any less fun.
EVE: Valkyrie

EVE: Valkyrie didn't live up to all of the hype when it launched earlier this year, but the multiplayer dogfighting shooter is still fun. Oculus owners have already played it for a few months, so we're excited to finally experience it once it launches on PlayStation VR.
Harmonix Music VR

Harmonix Music VR contains several visualizers and rhythm-themed mini-games. Players will be able to create paintings that respond to music, have fun in a nightclub and make cute creatures dance, and just go for a crazy visual trip. It also includes a soundtrack filled with music by in-house Harmonix bands.
Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live

Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live is a free-to-download title that will bring everyone's favorite vocaloid to virtual reality. Players will have to purchase stages, though, for $15. The first stage will launch October 13, and include seven different songs.
Headmaster

Headmaster features several increasingly ridiculous mini-games that focus around the sport of football. Players will be throwing balls with knives attached to them at test dummies, attempt to perform proper headers, and several other stunts. Early impressions have been very positive, and this is certainly one to keep an eye on.
Here They Lie

First-person horror title Here They Lie will be looking to scare players come October 13. Players will have to explore a "nightmarish city inhabited by strange, malevolent creatures" in the game. Developer Tangentleman's VR title will also be getting a physical release in Europe on November 2.
Hustle Kings VR

Originally released in 2009 for the PlayStation 3, Hustle Kings has been updated and released on every Sony console since then. Now the billiards game will be playable in VR. It's a known quantity, but a welcomed addition to the launch line-up.
Job Simulator

Set in the future, Job Simulator is a hilarious look at the not-so-accurately depicted past. Players will get to experience jobs such as an office worker and convenience store clerk, while interacting with a ton of objects. It was one of the highlights of the Vive launch, and it looks like it'll be one on PSVR as well.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes has one player wearing the headset and attempting to disarm a bomb, while other players give them instructions on how to do it. It's a unique game that requires cooperation, and it'll take talented players to succeed. Having a bomb explode in your face is still fun, though, and this will have players laughing win or lose.
Kismet

Kismet is a virtual fortune teller device. Who knows, maybe the game's predictions will be eerily accurate. It's certainly unique, and will be a distinct change of pace from the rest of the launch line-up.
Loading Human Chapter 1

As the title indicates, Loading Human Chapter 1 is the first chapter of of Untold Games' adventure game. Players will be able to solve puzzles, explore 3D locations, and develop relationships with other characters. A retail version is also being released for $39.99.
The Playroom VR

The Playroom was one of the best showcases of what the PlayStation Camera could do at launch, so it's no surprise that it's being updated to show off PSVR as well. It'll feature new mini-games to play, and should be fun for what it is.
PlayStation VR Worlds

PlayStation VR Worlds contains five separate games. The London Heist is a shooter, Into The Deep has players working as a deep sea salvor, VR Luge has players rolling down hills, Danger Ball is a fast-paced sport, and a sci-fi adventure called Scavenger's Odyssey rounds out the package. Several of these five separate experiences were used to demo PSVR, so they should showcase what the hardware can offer.
Rez Infinite

Rez Infinite looks to be the highlight of the PlayStation VR launch line-up. This upgraded version of the 2001 classic features new levels, and is even more atmospheric. It seems like Rez was always made for VR, and players can finally experience it.
RIGS Mechanized Combat League

RIGS Mechanized Combat League is one of the most ambitious launch titles, and it's one of the few with a multiplayer focus. Besides competitive online play, players will also be able to compete in this futuristic sport in single-player. It looks to be a ton of fun, and we're excited to check it out.
Rise of the Tomb Raider

The whole Rise of the Tomb Raider game won't be playable in virtual reality, but players will be able to explore Lara Croft's manor in a separate mode. The mode has no combat, and instead has a focus on puzzle-solving & narrative.
Super Stardust Ultra VR

Housemarque's Super Stardust Ultra is one of the best twin stick shooters on any PlayStation console, so it's pretty exciting to see that it's coming to VR. Not only will the original game be playable, the game has also been adapted to take place from a new perspective that looks completely different. This all goes down in the new Invasion Zone, which has players piloting a ship in first-person. It's a fresh twist on a very familiar game.
SUPERHYPERCUBE

Similar to games like SpeedThru, this "3D Tetris" title has players quickly twisting shapes in order for them to fit through a hole. They'll have to deal with an obscured view (which is made possible thanks to VR), and face off against boss stages as well. Throw in an awesome aesthetic, and it makes SUPERHYPERCUBE one of the most anticipated PSVR games.
Thumper

Few games have ever wowed me as much in just a few minutes like Thumper has. The "rhythm violence" game felt like a treat to every sense of my body, and that was before this was planned to be a PSVR title. I'm now even more excited for Drool's first game.
Tumble VR

Tumble VR is an adaptation of Supermassive Games' fantastic PlayStation Move launch title Tumble. Considering Tumble was the crown jewel in that accessory's launch, I wouldn't be surprised if Tumble VR ends up being one of the best titles on the system.
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood

Until Dawn was one of 2015's best surprises. The horror title had a smart script, played with enough tropes that it felt like a campy scary movie, and was just a joy to play. Judging by our review, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood looks to impress just as much. I'm confident that they will considering the developer's great track record of creating quality games around new technology (such as PlayStation Move). Plus, it's only $20, making it an affordable launch title.
VEV: Viva Ex Vivo

To put it kindly, VEV: Viva Ex Vivo was not a good game without virtual reality. The microscopic adventure game was boring and stretched out. Now the game is getting updated to support PSVR, and who knows, maybe it'll fulfill all of its potential now. Crazier things have happened.
Volume: Coda

Volume: Coda is a free expansion for Mike Bithell's Volume. This stealth game is a love letter to classics like Metal Gear Solid, and takes place from a top-down view. These new VR levels are sure to challenge players.
Wayward Sky

Wayward Sky looks to be one of PSVR's best launch title. Uber Entertainment's "look and click" adventure game stars players as Bess, a young pilot who crashes into a mysterious fortress in the clouds. After his father gets kidnapped, he must solve the fortress' puzzles and save his dad.
World War Toons

World War Toons is a free-to-play first-person shooter by Reload Studios. Developed by former Infinity Ward members, the light-hearted game is a departure for its creators. It's also available on regular PS4, so non-VR users can enjoy it too.
