Friday the 13th Getting Single Player, Delayed to 2017

Gun Media has announced that their successfully crowdfunded horror game, Friday the 13th, has been delayed into 2017. The main reason for the delay is to add a single-player component to the game, and to add in a playable Tommy Jarvis character. These features, including a Packanack Lodge map and bots, will make the game more fully featured when it releases next year. Non-surprisingly, since the game has more in it, the price has been slightly raised from $30 to $40.

They’ve also detailed the game’s 2017 release, and it’s going to be put out in chunks. First, players will be able to check out a multiplayer beta later this year. Then the multiplayer-only portion will get released in early 2017. Finally, the game will be fully released in Summer 2017, as the solo content is made available.

Gun Media’s Wes Keltner explained the reasoning behind the delay to Game Informer:

“The first thing people are going to read here is ‘delay.’ We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We’ve been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn’t ignore our fans. After securing funding, we’re here to tell you that it is a reality and we’re making this game even bigger. It sucks that there’s a delay, but the wait won’t be too long and it’s going to offer more for fans in the long-run!”

While players will have to wait a bit longer to get spooked, this seems like a good decision for everyone involved. Fans will get a better game at the end of the day, and Gun Media gets to create the game they really want. Strangely enough, it looks like Friday the 13th will have a happy ending. At least, for now.
