Following last week’s report from NPD that the Xbox One has once again beaten the PS4 in terms of monthly sales for the third straight month (a first!), the PlayStation LifeStyle crew weighed in on whether this is something Sony should be worried about in regards to PS4 vs Xbox One sales.
In this entry of Now Loading, the PSLS staff shares their thoughts on whether Microsoft is making headway, or if people might just be waiting for the PS4 Pro. Check the gallery below to see whether we think if Sony should worry or not.
Do you agree with what the staff thinks? Should Sony be worried when it comes to Xbox One catching up to the PS4’s sales or is a 20 million-unit lead just too big of a gap for Microsoft to even catch up to? Same as before, let’s hear your thoughts in the comments section below.
Now Loading is a recurring staff-driven feature where PlayStation LifeStyle discusses anything video game-related under the sun (yes, even non-Sony platforms.

Sony doesn't need to be worried. The reason why Xbox has outsold PS4 is because they have a new shiny toy for people to purchase, the Xbox One S. If the PS4 Slim had the additional features that the Xbox One S has added over the standard Xbox One, then we'd probably see a shift in Sony's favor. When the PS4 Pro releases, the numbers will flop back to Sony once more.

All eyes are on the PS4 Pro and PSVR this month. We'll see what happens in October/November. If Microsoft takes these two months as well, Sony will definitely have something to worry about. At present, it just needs to focus on bringing quality games.

Who can blame consumers for buying the latest piece of gaming tech out there? Once the PS4 Pro drops, I'd expect to see the return of PlayStation on top of the console sales race. Sony's other businesses may be faltering, but they have been second to none this console cycle, and I anticipate that this holiday season will continue in that tradition with both the PSVR and PS4 Pro vying for everyone's money.

Sony had already posted outstanding numbers with the PS4, just because the Xbox outsells it is no reason to jump to panic mode. In fact, if almost argue that the reason PS4 sales are slowing is a combination of so many people already having one (just look at those early sales numbers) and the Xbox One S being the new shiny. One personally already contributed to two sales of new PS4s in my house, but that was years ago, so the people who still need to buy one are the late adopters. I wouldn't say a few months of a small lead because of a brand new slim 4k system is anything to be concerned about with early success catapulting a healthy head start. Pay attention to? Yes, but worry about? Absolutely not.

Considering how much revenue Microsoft has sacrificed by offering backwards compatibility and selling the Xbox One (now Xbox One S) for $299 or less (much less in some cases), is it really a victory to gain a small amount of ground in their home territory?
I would argue that it isn't.
At the same time, Sony can't lose sight of the gamer-first strategy that put them in the driver's seat to begin with.

I think Sony has a big enough lead that they have really no need to feel worried. As long as they stay the course and continue to make solid decisions and games, they will be just fine.

First off, congrats to Microsoft and the Xbox One! Regardless of what people think, winning a month's sales war is definitely bigger for the company than any fanboy war, no?
As to whether Sony should be worried, I honestly don't think so. Playing devil's advocate here. I think most of the people buying a PS4 or thinking of buying one is waiting for the PS4 Pro, which would be perfectly logical, no?
Even if Microsoft wins the next few months, they need what? 20 million more units just to be at an even ground? Yeah, I really don't see that happening even with Scorpio's help.
However, I hope this makes Sony stand up and take notice a bit. I mean, we wouldn't want Sony to rest on its laurels, no? Healthy competition is a good thing for us, the gamers, and I'm all for that.

I don't think Sony should be worried. I imagine most of the would-be PS4 buyers are waiting for the PS4 Pro, which offers superior value over the PS4 Slim 1TB, and comes with updated hardware. In fact, it'd be silly to have bought a PS4 in the past few months, unless you absolutely had to!
