Just like with Doom, Bethesda won’t be sending out Skyrim Special Edition or Dishonored 2 review copies to media far ahead of their respective releases. Instead, they’ll be sending them out one day before release, meaning you likely won’t see full reviews until after launch.
In a post on their website about game reviews, Bethesda began by saying they value media reviews and try to learn from them when they offer critique. When it comes to Doom and the lack of early review copies – which led to speculation about the quality – Bethesda added, “Since then Doom has emerged as a critical and commercial hit, and is now one of the highest-rated shooters of the past few years.”
They continued by explaining that they want everyone to experience their games at the same time:
With the upcoming launches of Skyrim Special Edition and Dishonored 2, we will continue our policy of sending media review copies one day before release. While we will continue to work with media, streamers, and YouTubers to support their coverage – both before and after release – we want everyone, including those in the media, to experience our games at the same time.
If you’re someone who wants to read reviews before buying a game, Bethesda encourages you to “wait for your favorite reviewers to share their thoughts.”
Skyrim Special Edition releases on Friday, October 28 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Dishonored 2 follows on Friday, November 11 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-ordering Skyrim gets you a PS4 Dragon Symbol Theme, while pre-ordering Dishonored 2 gets you Dishonored Definitive Edition and you can play a day early.
If you missed the news earlier today, Skyrim Special Edition mods for PS4 are already appearing on Bethesda.net.
Will you wait for reviews to buy Skyrim Special Edition or Dishonored 2?
