Announced back in 2014, Night in the Woods is releasing on January 10, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PC, developer Infinite Fall revealed today.
An adventure game focused on characters, dialogue, story, and exploring a big world, Night in the Woods follows Mae Borowski, a 20 year old college dropout who returns to Possum Springs, a small town in the middle of nowhere. Expecting to meet up with old friends and resume her old life of hanging out and petty crimes, Mae finds that her friends have grown up and changed. Not only that, but strange things are starting to happen, and there’s something in the woods.
“How you choose to spend your time in Possum Springs will determine what things you end up doing and who you’ll get to know,” Art Director Scott Benson adds. “You’ll need more than one playthrough to see all of it.”
Infinite Fall explained on Kickstarter why Night in the Woods has taken longer than previously thought:
So yeah. We were originally shooting for this fall but to make a much longer story (hello those who read last night’s backer update!) short:
- in late September we had to add a handful of weeks to the schedule because of mundane issues like time and our mental/physical limits as a small team making a big weird game
- doing that in the fall, because of the holidays, basically bumps you into January.
It’s actually pretty dull when you write it out like that but trust me it’s been basically the most stressful time ever making those decisions and nailing the calendar down multiple times. But now we’re really excited and have a lot of work to do in the next couple months to bring this beast in.
Expect a new trailer and PlayStation Store and Steam pages to go up soon.
