PSX 2016 – The Last of Us Part II Announced for PS4, Naughty Dog Talks the Sequel

Update: Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann discussed The Last of Us Part II today, saying that “release is a ways off” and it’s “still early days for the project.”

He also explained why they’re revisiting Joel and Ellie’s journey in the sequel:

I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special – a story that evolved into an epic journey.

Naughty Dog will have more details on The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.

Original Story: Noting that it’s “super early” in development and running on Naughty Dog’s updated engine, Shawn Layden introduced The Last of Us Part II today at PlayStation Experience, and it’s exclusive to PlayStation 4.

The trailer features Ellie playing guitar and singing, covered in blood, and it continues with Joel walking in. It ends with Ellie saying she’s going to kill every last one of them.
