The most exciting trailer of a PlayStation 4 exclusive last week didn’t come from PSX, but rather from The Game Awards. That was where Hideo Kojima showed off the second trailer for his latest game Death Stranding. It looks to be Kojima’s weirdest work yet (which is saying something), and the trailer starred Hannibal actor Mads Mikkelsen and Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro.
Here’s how Mikkelsen explained the plot when talking to Birth.Movies.Death:
It’s very intricate. I mean, you know (Kojima). He’s a very brilliant man. I mean, the stuff he told me? I only understood some of it. There was a lot of (mimes being baffled) “What?” I have to see it before I understand. Because with Death Stranding, he’s creating something completely new.
The actor also went on to explain that he wasn’t familiar with Kojima by name, but that he had seen some of his work before. Mikkelsen said that his son was very excited, and was a fan of the Metal Gear Solid creator. While Mads is admittedly not much of a gamer, he was very impressed by the first trailer of the game.
“I also saw the trailer he had done with Norman Reedus,” said Mikkelsen. “I thought that was spectacular, just from the standpoint of an actor. The emotion, the feeling of it, the sensuality in what he does. Without even being a gamer, I was like, this is crazy, what he’s doing. I loved it.”
Mads shouldn’t be worried that he only understood some of Death Stranding. After all, I’m pretty sure that’s more than most of the audience understands after two very cryptic trailers. Either way, fans are definitely excited for Death Stranding, and are eagerly looking forward to the next bit of information.
