While known for their MOBA SMITE, Hi-Rez Studios successfully managed to branch out with their team-based shooter Paladins. Available now on PC, the studio finally gave the first details on Paladins Season 1, and on when the game will be coming to consoles. The first season is set to begin after the Paladins Invitational occurs this weekend at the Hi-Rez Expo, but the game will still be in open beta. New content will be added, such as a new fairytale-themed castle map called Stone Keep, and new characters.
Hi-Rez Studios also reconfirmed that they are committed to customizable character themes. Here’s what the studio had to say about that subject:
Paladins is continuing its commitment to being the most customizable first person shooter with new, more complex skin collections available in Season 1. “We really want to make sure the player has the opportunity to customize their characters. This is a level of personalization that sets us apart in the genre,” said Thomas Holt, Paladins Art Director.
The Ying Genie skin collection has 4 different head accessories and 2 different weapons to mix and match with the genie themed body for players to create their own customized version of Ying Genie. Viktor will also receive a similar customizable Army Man skin collection in an upcoming patch. The new collection includes 4 different bodies, 4 heads, and 4 weapon styles which make Viktor look like a green plastic army man toy.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners looking to get their hands on the team-based shooter won’t have to wait much longer. Paladins’ console beta is supposed to arrive in the first quarter of 2017. Details about the console version are currently scarce, but PlayStation LifeStyle is in attendance at the Hi-Rez Expo, and will have more details to share soon.
