Super Bowl weekend is quickly approaching, so it only makes sense that Electronic Arts would chime in with their yearly prediction for football’s biggest event of the year. The publisher used Madden NFL 17 to simulate the upcoming match between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons, and it had some pretty positive results for fans of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. The simulation, which you can see above, has the New England Patriots winning Super Bowl LI in a close match, 27-24.
If the prediction turns out true, it’d make Tom Brady the first quarterback to win five Super Bowls. It’d be a fitting accomplishment for one of the sport’s all-time greats, and Electronic Arts believes that Brady will be the game’s MVP. In the simulation, the husband of Gisele Bündchen completed 30 of 39 passing attempts for just over 300 yards. He also managed to win the game with a dramatic fourth down touchdown pass with only 20 seconds left in the game.
While these predictions are fun, it’s worth noting that Electronic Arts’ track record has been pretty sketchy lately. Despite shockingly choosing the winner six times in the first seven years (the annual prediction began in 2004), the video game has only gotten half of the calls right in the six years since then. That still leads to a rather strong prediction record of 9-4, but it’s far from a lock that the Patriots will win Super Bowl LI.
