Following the discovery of PlayStation 4 Pro’s Boost Mode in the Update 4.50 beta earlier today, more people accepted into the beta have posted evidence of its existence.
One player created a comparison video featuring The Evil Within on a standard PS4 vs PS4 Pro with Boost Mode enabled, giving you an idea of how unpatched games may be improved with this new feature. On Twitter, the poster of the video said loading times were also improved, and they noticed improved loading times in The Witcher 3 as well.
Update: Here’s a video for Just Cause 3 in Boost Mode:
On NeoGAF, a user uploaded an English image of Boost Mode’s details. “Experience improved gameplay, including higher frame rates, for some games that were released before the introduction of PS4 Pro (CUH-7000 series),” it says. “Turn this off if you experience unexpected behaviour during gameplay.”
Also on NeoGAF, one user said, “Bloodborne loading times are noticeably better from comparing with and without Boost mode, hadn’t progressed far with my current character so couldn’t really get into any demanding scenes to compare performance.”
Boost Mode wasn’t included as one of the features in Sony’s 4.50 preview earlier today, but Eurogamer says you shouldn’t expect major improvements to older PS4 games. “[…] to be clear, what we won’t see will be games running at frame-rates higher than their established caps, and neither will we see drastic changes in resolution. Games that do consistently hit their performance targets will look and play exactly as they do already,” they wrote.
If the video gets taken down for whatever reason, you can see a comparison gif over here.
Update: Sony has confirmed Boost Mode.
