Castlevania Animated Series Announced by Netflix

As part of the company’s premiere date announcements, Netflix has announced a Castlevania animated series with the first part arriving later this year though with no official release date just yet.

Split into a four-part series that will each run at approximately 30 minutes each,  Netflix’s Castlevania animated series will follow the exploits of the Belmot clan and how “the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.”

Behind the Castlevania series is Frederator Studios doing the animation, and be produced by author Warren Ellis (Moon Knight), Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar (Dredd, The Grey).

Over on Facebook, Adi Shankar announced the reveal and proclaims how he personally guarantees that this will end the “streak” and be the western world’s “first good video game adaptation.” Oh, he also mentions that Ellis is writing season 1 and season 2. Yep, it seems they have a season 2 in mind already.

Breaking News: I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.

Castlevania is a Netflix Original Series with Season 1 launching in 2017 and Season 2 in 2018. Furthermore, I personally guarantee that it will end the streak and be the western world’s first good video game adaptation.

P.S. A.V. Club, stop saying mean s*** about me.

P.S.S. Kevin Kolde is the man and Seasons 1 & 2 were written by Warren f’ing Ellis.

Given how good Netflix’s original content has been so far, hopes are high that this Castlevania adaptation doesn’t, for lack of a better word, suck.

Do you have high hopes for this one or will it follow the long tradition of video game properties failing at being movies or TV shows?
