2017 is shaping up to be a big year for Crystal Dynamics. The developer behind the Tomb Raider reboot is currently working on a game as part of Square Enix’s The Avengers project, and a Tomb Raider film based off the 2013 game of the same name is being made. Another less publicized milestone is that the Redwood City, California-based developer moved into a new, bigger office last week.
The studio posted plenty of pictures of their new office on their official Tumblr page, and it’s really impressive. “We have some great new amenities,” said the co-studio head Scot Amos. “From hydraulic desks for everyone to adjust as they like, to black-out shades and light absorption paint for those darkness-loving developers.”
Other additions to the studio includes six sound proof audio rooms, a dedicated review room, and additional offices. “With the growth of our team, we’ve also increased our studio meeting area and naturally outfitted it with tons of next-gen 4K screens, as well as dedicated console and PC gaming stations next to the huge new kitchen,” said Amos. “Lastly, we’ve added two specialty rooms for optimal development efficiency: a photogrammetry capture space and our very own, on-site, fully equipped Motion Capture stage.”
Ron Rosenberg, the other co-studio head of Crystal Dynamics, said that the studio will help the team take their work “to the next level.” The team size will continue to grow as they keep hiring, and Rosenberg revealed that the new studio is “nearly double the size” that they currently need.
