Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is on the cover of Game Informer’s April issue, meaning that you can expect more details on the upcoming standalone story chapter throughout the month.
In the coverage trailer released today, you can hear various members of Naughty Dog offer their thoughts on The Lost Legacy. “It allows us to put all the best parts of Uncharted in a streamlined story,” Creative Director and Writer Shaun Escayg says. Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells adds, “Everyone’s still really excited about Uncharted. I think there will be an empty spot in everyone’s heart if we never come back.”
Asked by Game Informer about the future of the Uncharted series, Wells reiterated that Naughty Dog is done with Naughty Drake, as the studio feels they wrapped up his story perfectly. Wells added:
I would say that Naughty Dog doing an Uncharted after this is unlikely. I would never say never, but we’ve got The Last of Us Part II on our plates and there’s so much other stuff that [we want to explore]. It’d be hard. If we magically had that two-team, three-team studio, sure – it’d be great to keep doing it. We really love the franchise, but the studio has limited resources and lots of other ideas. I’d say the likelihood is low.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is scheduled for a 2017 launch on PlayStation 4, while The Last of Us Part II for PS4 is a ways off.
