Refused classification in Australia earlier this month due to “a depiction of implied sexual violence,” Outlast 2 has now been been rated 18+ by the Australian Classification Board and will release on April 26.
In the ratings summary for Outlast 2 in Australia, they say to expect “high impact horror themes, violence, blood, gore, and sex.” The description adds that there’s a high impact of themes, violence, and sex; a strong impact of language and nudity; and a moderate impact of drug use.
Developer Red Barrels sent this statement to Press-Start, revealing that there will only be one version of Outlast 2 available worldwide:
Outlast 2 has been rated R18+ by the Classification Branch in Australia and will be released 26th April 2017. There will be only one version of Outlast 2 available worldwide.
However, it does appear as though Outlast 2 was altered in some way. In a statement to IGN, the Australian Classification Board said that “it is satisfied that that the original version of the game that was refused classification has been modified to allow the game to be classified R 18+.”
Outlast 2 releases digitally on April 25 in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. A physical bundle with Outlast 2, Outlast, and Outlast’s Whistleblower DLC will also be out on April 25.
