Taking to the Destiny the Game Twitter account today, Bungie officially confirmed that the sequel to Destiny is called Destiny 2.
No other information about Destiny 2 was given, but according to the leaked poster, it will launch on September 8 and have a pre-release beta. Reports suggest that the beta will begin in June.
According some Twitter users, this is the Destiny 2 pre-order bonus you’ll receive at GameStop (note: it may be for the Limited Edition only; official details TBA):

In Activision’s earnings call last month, CEO Eric Hirshberg said Destiny 2 would be more accessible for people who want a more casual first-person action experience:
For anyone who either hasn’t yet tried Destiny or hasn’t played it in a while, we think we’ve made a game with the sequel that’s going to have a lot for them to love, too. The cornerstone of that is a great cinematic story. That’s been a real focus with a great cast of memorable, relatable characters, coupled with some very nice ways to make the game more accessible to a casual player, without losing anything that our core players love. We’ve made it more accessible to someone who just wants to have a great more casual first-person action experience.
Your power, possessions, Eververse-related items, and currency from Destiny won’t transfer over to the sequel.
The final live event for Destiny, Age of Triumph, begins tomorrow, March 28 at 10am PT/1pm ET. Expect Update 2.6.0 to launch at that time.
