Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite Gets a Gameplay Trailer, Final Character Count “Won’t Be Disappointing”

Featuring Ultron, Chun-Li, Hulk, Strider Hiryu, Thor, Chris Redfield, Hawkeye, and the Space Stone, a new Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite gameplay trailer was released today.

Included in the Deluxe Edition is the 2017 Character Pass, which grants access to six post-launch DLC characters as they release by the end of the year. As Producer Mike Evans revealed in an interview with TrustedReviews, you won’t be able to unlock the additional characters in-game like you can in Street Fighter V:

All we’re announcing right now is the 2017 Character Pass, which will feature the six DLC characters, the first of which is Sigma. The other thing I can say is that the game will not feature dual-currency like Street Fighter V. We don’t have an in-game ‘sweat equity’ currency, it will be more traditional in that sense with straight-up DLC.

Looking at the characters on the launch roster, 14 have been announced so far, and Evans told Metro that “we have many more announcements coming. But I can’t say about the final number.” He did say that the final number of characters “won’t be disappointing” though.

On the Marvel side of things, Evans confirmed that the characters aren’t “based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” so you’ll see characters Marvel doesn’t have the cinematic rights to. Asked specifically about Doctor Doom, he said, “Oh, ah… I would say stay excited. We have many announcements coming. But you’re not the first to ask that one!”

Metro also brought up the fact that Chris Redfield looks like he did in Resident Evil 5, and Evans said they felt like that was “one of the most recognizable versions.” Unfortunately, Evans confirmed that Chris doesn’t have an attack where he punches a boulder at someone.

Game Informer also learned that the cinematic story mode is roughly two hours long, extras can be unlocked by playing through the story and arcade modes, match length should be about the same as in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and Infinite has arcade, story, mission, collection, and training modes.

Finally, Eurogamer spoke with Evans, where he said they’d learned some things from Street Fighter V and won’t release Infinite until it’s ready:

There were learnings. What we noticed from Street Fighter V is obviously on day one we need to have a fully featured game. We need to have a story mode. It’s more important even for this Marvel title than for Street Fighter V because you have all these new people who may come in just for the story mode.

We’ve taken our time with this one and we’re not going to release it until it’s ready. We’ve been working hard on the story mode and also on arcade mode. The amount of content that’s expected from fans for competitive titles these days, we’ve taken a note of that.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite releases on September 19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
