March 2017 Digital Sales Report: Ghost Recon Wildlands Opens in 1st, Sells 1.2 Million Copies

SuperData has revealed that the worldwide digital video games market hit $8 billion in March 2017, an increase of 7% over March 2016. The console and free-to-play segments were up slightly year-over-year, while PC was mostly flat, and mobile was up 13%.

In just the United States, digital revenue rose 15% to $1.46 billion. This includes a 17% jump for console digital revenue thanks to Ghost Recon Wildlands, Mass Effect Andromeda, and NieR: Automata.

Looking at a couple of the big March releases, Ghost Recon Wildlands sold more than 1.2 million digital copies (800,000+ on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and 400,000+ on PC), and it finished in first on the console revenue chart. Mass Effect Andromeda only saw digital revenues increase by roughly 5% over 2012’s Mass Effect 3, and on PC it sold less than Mass Effect 3’s 349,000 digital copies.

Here’s the top ten grossing console games in March 2017, ranked by worldwide digital revenue:

  1. Ghost Recon Wildlands
  2. FIFA 17
  3. Battlefield 1
  4. Horizon Zero Dawn
  5. Grand Theft Auto V
  6. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
