Sony Looking Forward to “Selling a Lot of PS4 Pros” This Christmas, Says It Underestimated Demand

Sony’s Jim Ryan has said that the company expects to be in a “positive inventory situation” this Christmas and is looking forward to selling “a lot” of PlayStation 4 Pros during the holiday. In an interview with Games Industry, Ryan revealed that Sony had underestimated demand for the console and as a result, it has largely been out of stock since launch.

“It is only now that it is starting to come back into free supply, and only now are we really getting a sense of things,” explained Ryan while noting that “broadly speaking,” 40 percent of Pro customers are people who are upgrading their existing console but the supply constraint has been a “distortion” when making estimates.

Elsewhere in the interview, Ryan seemed confident about the coming months, stating that Sony will be releasing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Gran Turismo Sport within a span of a few months, which the company feels “pretty good” about. “We’ve never done that before,” he said.

In terms of competition, Sony isn’t worried about Microsoft’s Xbox One X and thinks that a “resurgent Nintendo back” is a good thing for the games industry as a whole.
