Far Cry 5 Devs Seek to Benefit From Montana’s “Great Sense of Wilderness” and Danger

Far Cry series is no stranger to exotic locations, wilderness, and danger. But while the game’s previous settings explored locations around the world, Ubisoft is bringing Far Cry 5 to the USA – something director Dan Hay has been wanting to do since work finished on Far Cry 3.

Digging deeper into the developer’s decision of choosing Montana, lead writer Drew Holmes told GamingBolt in an interview:

The first place that everyone decided to check out was Montana. I think that there’s a great sense of frontier, great sense of wilderness, of danger, wildlife, there’s mountains, there’s big sky. There’s lots of places that feel unknown even though it is in the backyard.

So I think as soon as the team went there, they started to meet the people there, and get a sense of, ‘Montanans are a very self-reliant type of person. They don’t like to be pushed around.’ There’s a history of standoffish-ness and leave-me-alone with the state that I think worked really, really well with Far Cry.

We talked a bit about the game’s setting in our own preview from E3 2017, which you can check out here.

Experience Montana yourself when Far Cry 5 releases on February 27, 2018.
