Announced last month, Atari’s new Ataribox console was revealed in a newsletter.
While details such as specs, games, features, pricing, and a release date are TBA, Atari did say, “We’ve been blown away by the feedback since the teaser release, and today, we’re excited to share an exclusive first look at the Ataribox design with you. Our objective is to create a new product that stays true to our heritage while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.”
The Ataribox is inpsired by classic Atari design elements and will be released in two editions: wood and black/red. The front panel can be either wood or glass, and the system will feature several ports, including HDMI, 4x USB, and SD.
“As you can guess, those ports suggest modern internal specs,” Atari added. “It also means that while we will be delivering classic gaming content, we will also be delivering current gaming content.”
More information will be shared “step by step as we bring Ataribox to life,” and Atari said there are “a lot of milestones, challenges, and decision points in front of us in the months ahead.”
According to a note to investors last month (via Eurogamer), the Ataribox will be crowdfunded to “limit risk taking.”
