Recently, Naughty Dog has said they have no immediate plans for a new Uncharted game, and the entire team from The Lost Legacy will be moving to The Last of Us Part II. As for what comes after their sequel to The Last of Us, Arne Meyer, Director of Communications, told the Daily Star that they’ll start figuring things out when Part II is in full production:

So, we can pretty much say the whole studio will be focused on The Last of Us Part II once [The Lost Legacy] is over.

At some point, parts of the team that will try to figure out what’s next and how that goes when The Last of Us Part II is [in] full production. We’ll see if there are potential resources to spare which can go into that discovery period, but it’s hard to tell now.

A lot of people went straight from The Last of Us, straight into Uncharted 4, straight into Lost Legacy and those guys need a vacation. And because we started really early on with The Last of Us Part II it’ll take a while for people in the studio to figure out what’s next, where do we go next and which projects we want to think about … so, if you’re holding out for UnKarted you could be waiting some time.

The Lost Legacy Creative Director Shaun Escayg added that it’s hard to tell what the future is for Naughty Dog and Uncharted, and “there’s a lot of story we’ve yet to tell, but we may not be telling it.” If there’s an Uncharted story they like in the future that excites them, “great,” he said, “but we’re perfectly happy to step away from it.”

When the Daily Star brought up that Naughty Dog will pretty much have a blank slate once Part II is done, Escayg said:

Yes, it’s pretty exciting… We don’t know what the future holds, but you’re right, it could be something new. It could be another Uncharted, who knows. Naughty Dog is not afraid of exploring more stuff.

Escayg wouldn’t narrow down what the studio is exploring, only teasing that Naughty Dog right now “is just teeming with new content and new ideas building up new worlds, new genres. It’s a constant melting pot of new ideas.”

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy launches on August 22. The Last of Us Part II doesn’t have a release window yet.
