Planet of the Apes Game

Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier Hits PS4, Xbox One & PC in Fall 2017

Set between the events of the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes movies, Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this fall, developer Imaginati revealed to IGN. It will be published by The Imaginarium, the performance capture studio run by Andy Serkis.

A standalone cinematic adventure game, Last Frontier follows a group of apes who head to the Rocky Mountains to get away from the war, but must enter a human valley for supplies as winter comes closer.

“The story takes its cue from the films, aiming for a morally ambiguous take on the ensuing conflict, with no black and white decisions or clear heroes and villains,” IGN writes. “Players will take control of both humans and apes – who, because of the game’s standalone story and cast, can live or die based on your decisions – with multiple endings possible depending on their actions on both sides.”

Developer Imaginati expects Last Frontier to last for 2-3 hours, and they hope you’ll replay it multiple times.

In terms of gameplay, your role as the player is entirely choice-based. You won’t have any direct control over characters, and you won’t explore the world or complete puzzles, but you will have to make a choice every 15 to 20 seconds or so:

“It’s a creative risk, but when we talked to everyone on the team, they really believed in it,” Imaginati founder Martin Alltimes said. “It would have been very easy for us to copy what had gone before.”
