KontrolFreek Destiny 2 Ghost Thumbsticks For DualShock 4 Review

KontrolFreek Destiny 2 ghost thumbsticks 2

Perhaps sensing my palpable excitement for Bungie’s sequel, KontrolFreek was kind enough to send me a pair of the KontrolFreek Destiny 2 Ghost thumbsticks for DualShock 4. Featuring a unique white Ghost design, these thumbstick extenders are unlike any that I’ve ever used before, with odd contours that I thought wouldn’t feel quite right, though I have now come to prefer them most out of all my controllers and thumbsticks.

The Destiny 2 Ghost thumbsticks were made in collaboration with Bungie, touting a “cool grey Ghost design,” though to my eyes they pretty much appear to be white. I guess in the right light you could call them “cool grey.” These are mid-height sticks that will add some significant range of motion to your thumbsticks, something I’ve constantly fond very useful as I play games, particularly ones that require me to aim precisely.

The hybrid thumb surface is what I want to talk most about though. There are many stick extenders out there, even other Destiny ones that I have on my other controllers, but the unique surface of the KontrolFreek Destiny 2 Ghost thumbsticks is what makes them special. Instead of being a uniform surface around the circle, and angles of the Ghost almost feel like a D-pad on your thumbstick. My thumbs naturally rest in the valleys on the lower outer corners, and the peaks allow me to easily tell which way the thumbstick is oriented.

Typical extenders will give you more precision, but the Destiny 2 Ghost sticks have increased my awareness of exactly how my thumb is positioned at all time. I rarely have to resituate my hands, and when I do, it’s subtle adjustments. This might sound like madness to someone who doesn’t game a lot, but if much of your life is spent with hands on a controller, it’s these subtle kinds of things that can make all the difference.

As I start up Destiny 2 today, the KontrolFreek Destiny 2 Ghost thumbsticks will be part of my arsenal, but even when I’m not logged into Bungie’s sequel, they are a nice way to keep Ghost with me no matter which game I’m playing.

Make sure to keep up with the latest Destiny 2 news and features as we cover its launch this week.
