Raiders Of The Broken Planet Open Beta Announced

MercurySteam have announced today that their upcoming third-person shooter, Raiders of the Broken Planet, will go into open beta for two days prior to its launch later this month.

The games open beta will take place next on September 15-16, and allow players on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC to download the game and try out its first two missions, First Round and Hanging by a Thread, for free.

Some information on the two levels below, courtesy of MercurySteam:

First Round is a tutorial mission focusing on Harec, the leader of the Raiders, and acts as the intro mission for the game. It is the only mission playable only in single-player. Hanging by a Thread is a daring mission for the Raiders as they infiltrate an enemy airship to rescue the unhinged warrior of legend – Lycus Dion – in an attempt to recruit him to the team. Like every other mission in Raiders of the Broken Planet, it can be played in single or multiplayer, including the innovative 4 v 1 Antagonist mod. These two missions form the Prologue which will be be free to download at launch. Prologue will be accompanied by the first campaign – Alien Myths, which can be purchased for €9.99/$9.99/£9.99.

We had a chance to take a look at the original beta for the game back in May, and Tyler Treese came away hopeful for the game:

While there are clearly areas that need to be tweaked, Raiders of the Broken Planet‘s beta showed that MercurySteam has a potential hit on their hands. The four-player cooperative action game has tight gameplay, and an interesting premise that could lead to dozens of campaigns down the line (so far four are planned for release). I’m still not sure if the game will be able to get its hooks into players enough to have them replay stages repeatedly, but at the very least it’ll end up entertaining a group of friends for as long as the campaign lasts.

Raiders of the Broken Planet launches on September 22 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
