NieR: Automata has been one heck of a success both critically and commercially for Square Enix & Platinum Games. The publisher announced today that the action role-playing game has passed the two million mark when they combined physical copies shipped and digital sales. That’s an amazing number for a sequel to a niche title that didn’t perform all that hot.
This success is likely why another NieR sequel looks to be in the works. Here’s what a job listing hinted at:
According to NeoGAF user DKHF (who first noticed and translated the page), the listing appeared on Square Enix’s Business Division recruitment page and was listed for their Business Division 6 (the division of Square Enix that makes Nier). The posting also included a message from Nier series director Yoko Taro as well as the producer for the series Yosuke Saito. The listing describes the job as “Nier scenario staff,” possibly for the next Nier game.
Square Enix paired the NieR: Automata sales update with some new merch announcements. Check them out below:
In addition, the NieR:Automata / NIER: Gestalt & Replicant original soundtrack vinyl box set will be available to pre-order exclusively from the Square Enix Online Store. The box set will be available in December, and will feature four vinyl LPs with a variety of tracks selected by series composer Keiichi Okabe as well as exclusive illustrations from Tokyo Ghoul illustrator Sui Ishida.
Finally, fans can relive the haunting music with the NieR Music Concert & Talk Live video Blu-ray and the NieR Music Concert: The Memories of Puppets Blu-ray, available for pre-order from the Square Enix Online Store.
NieR: Automata is available now for PlayStation 4 and PC.
