Call of Duty: WWII Loot Boxes Fall From the Sky and Open in Front of Other Players

In the upcoming Call of Duty: WWII, loot boxes function in a way that most modern first-person shooters haven’t ever seen before. It seems as if the game treats loot boxes like the in-game care packages.

A video uploaded to the Call of Duty: WWII subreddit shows exactly how the system seems to work. While in the hub of the game – which is apparently set on Normandy Beach – you find somewhere nice and quiet to call in your supply drop. After pressing a button, a crate then hits the ground and pops open for you and the world to see.

According to the uploader, other players aren’t able to steal the contents of the box but they certainly can see what you’ve received in them. The is obviously a different take on the mechanic from past Call of Duty titles, but most likely one that won’t anger fans too much. The fact that players aren’t able to interfere or take the contents in any way will likely calm players who might have been worried about this “care package” way of receiving goods.

Supply crates have been a yearly institution for the Call of Duty series ever since the 2014 Advanced Warfare. Since then, the various developers of the games have tweaked what can be found in the boxes and how they’re given out, so it isn’t too surprising to see yet another change for the upcoming World War 2-themed shooter.

Call of Duty: WWII is set to launch this Friday, November 3.
